Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Message Paraphrase:

12-14I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.

Our relationship with God is something that grows. It is an intentional process and not not haphazard. It takes effort. It is a process not just spontaneous. It is not one experience that fixes it all. Sometimes we have leaps of faith in our lives through supernatural interventions in our lives – but those are to help us and motivate us in our journey rather than being the focus in them.

The problem is when we get stuck in the glory of the past and never go forward. Jesus is always telling us grow up. There is more to this. There is something more glorious. Your future performance is not dependant on yesterday but rather the choices we make today. We make our choices and our choices make us.

You are a Christian in the making. God is not finished with you yet.

Your goal should be to emulate what Christ already did for you.
