How to Respond to Anger in God Honoring Ways

Even the spiritual giants are not immune to anger.
Anger is not volitional; it isn’t something that we
choose. We just get angry, just like we get happy. But when we are angry we
have a choice on how we can respond. Not all responses to anger are evil.
When we read the Bible we find out that even God gets
angry. Jesus was angry too.
A person may get angry at the injustice and the
mistreatment of children in some part of the world and begin an advocacy
campaign.
How can we respond to anger in God honoring ways?
- Acknowledge that
you are angry
- Pray for wisdom
and the Holy Spirit’s intervention
- Acknowledge that
you are the one responsible for how you respond to your anger. You cannot
blame others for your responses. Others might have done things to you that
made you angry but they are not responsible for how you respond to your
anger.
Ge 4:5-7 but on
Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and
his face was downcast. Then the LORD said
to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be
accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it
desires to have you, but you must master it.” Eph 4:26-27 “In your
anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and
do not give the devil a foothold. Jas
1:19-20 My dear
brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak
and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous
life that God desires. Ex 34:6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger,
